Wish I could help you out Sandy, but when I go to the stadium we park the car in a lot and walk as fast as we can to get to the stadium.
As I am sure you must know it is not the greatest of neighborhoods. Although lately there is a lot of police presence during the week, don't know how it is on the weekend.
I wouldn't know a decent bar or restaurant in that area if I was dying of thirst or hungry. There must be quite a few around. The court house is right there and the lawyers have to eat and drink somewhere nearby.
If you want a classic crowd before the game, check out Stan's Restaurant and Bar. It's right across from the bleacher entrances to the stadium and will be packed with friendly fans. It's small, old and dingy looking but the atmosphere is great and there are always people to talk to--it's a Yankee's staple.
When you get off the Yankee stadium subway exit, you will surface to the streets lining the stadium -- nothing but sports bars and memorabilia shops as far as the eye can see. No worries, you'll stumble into the right place.
The neighborhood is more than safe. There's only 4092389232893289 police officers on game day.
