I've been here several times now, and I seem to enjoy the place more and more each time. The wait staff is extremely friendly, and Valerie is my favorite! I always ask for her section - she's a very hard worker and provides excellent service.
The food is top-notch as well. I haven't had anything so far that I haven't liked. I especially recommend the Marie's Chicken, the pot-pies, the curry fries and the sticky toffee dessert. Their meatloaf is outstanding too, and so are their burgers. They also have a kid's menu, with the best chicken strips in town.
This place is definitely where the locals hang out; I've seen a lot of the same people on several very different occasions. Even the owner is there frequently, visiting with the guests. It's a very fun atmosphere (albeit loud at times).
Overall, it's a great place to hang out in the Monterey area. The people are friendly and the selection of beer, wine, and alcohol is the cherry on top. They also have several TVs playing whatever sports you're into so you won't miss your games.
I love trying new places, because you never know what you may find! This, unfortunately, was a bitter-sweet experience.
A friend and I met for lunch and we were promptly seated and greeting by our waitress. She was very friendly and attentive to our needs. We were immediately served chips, salsa and re-fried bean dip. The chips were good and I enjoyed the bean dip well enough.
Our food was brought out very fast. My friend had the chicken quesadilla, and I the Olivia's Platter. It's a combination platter with 2 mini shredded beef chimichangas, 2 mini ground beef tacos, 2 mini chicken taquitos, and 2 pollo fundito. The tacos were incredibly greasy, and only mildly tasty. I couldn't eat the other one on account of the grease. The rest of the food was edible, but I wasn't excited about anything I ate. I felt like I was eating frozen prepared food which had just been reheated and garnished. No complaints from my friend on the quesadilla.
Now here's where I did get excited: For dessert they have (among other things) Chocolate Mini Chimis. These were nothing short of amazing. They were so incredibly rich - which can be good or bad depending on the person. But I loved 'em. If I wasn't in mixed company, I would have licked the plate clean. Yeah, they were that good.
The worst part came a couple hours after I got home. I had the worst stomach ache I've ever had in my life (I'll spare you the details, lol). I don't think it was food poisoning, but I was out of commission for a good 3-4 hours, until I took some heavy-duty tummy medicine. I had nothing else to eat prior to or after lunch, so I'm not sure what else may have caused it.
Overall, the quality of the food wasn't BAD, but it wasn't GREAT either. But the service was excellent and the place was very clean, although it was very slow (1:00pm-3:00pm on Saturday). My dessert was excellent though, so I gotta give credit where it's due.
My advice: If you're looking for the best Mexican food in town for the same or less cost, go across the street to Jalisco's on 17th St. (NOT the other Jalisco's on River Parkway). Their food is amazing, authentic, fresh and very competitively-priced.
This place is amazing! The people are very friendly, and they do a fantastic job. With every haircut they include a head and shoulder massage as well as a shampoo wash. They also serve complimentary tea, coffee, and cocoa. They use products with natural ingredients and essential oils. And a free hand massage comes with every coloring. They also include free neck and ear trim between visits. This place is more like a spa than just a hair salon. Their prices are incredible too. I wish my hair would grow back faster because I can't wait to go back again!!
After having a horrible experience at the other Jalisco's on River Parkway, I was not looking forward to dinner here. Boy was I surprised!
As soon as we were seated, they brought us hot & fresh chips, salsa, and bean dip. I was blown away by how good it all was. I had nearly 3 baskets of chips and 4 cups of bean dip all to myself!
Per our waitress's suggestion, I had the Pollo Fundido. No idea what I was getting myself into, but after I took a bite my eyes rolled into the back of my head in ecstacy. The chicken was so moist and the entire dish was absolutley amazing. I was pretty much full from all the chips and dip, but I couldn't stop eating my meal because it was so good.
Everyone else's meal was delicious too. The carne asada was cooked to absolute perfection, the macho burrito really lives up to its name, and the enchiladas were awesome, according to my family who I was dining with.
And last but not least, the service was incredible. My bean dip was refilled as soon as I could finish it, they were totally on top of the drinks, and the entire staff was very friendly and happy to serve. I seriously can not wait to go back! I've had some amazing Mexican food before, and Jalisco's is right up there with the best of them.
The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is because the atmosphere wasn't all that awesome. The place is decorated nicely and is clean, but it's more of a mellow place to eat and relax than it is a place to party and get wild. It's definitely a family restaurant, and even a nice place to take a date.
First, I have to say it's been over a year since I've eaten here, but I'll never forget the experience. To start, the service was TERRIBLE. The server never came to check on us for drinks or to check how our food was. Second, the food was terrible. The meat was dry and literally tasted like it had been sitting out all day long. And lastly, when we asked to see the manager, he didn't even come out. Instead, the server just returned with a couple coupons off our next meal. Like we'd ever go back. But like I said, it's been a while since we've been there. It may have improved some. But my family and I will never go back to find out.
Do not confuse this Jalisco's with the one on 17th though. That one is by far one of the best Mexican food restaurants I have ever been to! See my review for more details.
My roommate and I found this place on Yelp a while back, but never got around to going until 2 days ago. Now I wish we never waited that long!
We were greeted by a very friendly gentleman when we first walked in, and were seated right away. Our waitress Lauren was very nice and fun, and was instrumental in helping me decide what to order, since it was my first time there.
The food was incredible. I think I can safely say that my chicken fried steak was probably the best I've ever had. I got the combo, so I also had the chicken fried chicken, and it was fantastic. Even though it was during the lunch rush, our food all tasted very fresh and the chicken was nice and tender and moist.
I went back the very next day with my sister and asked for Lauren again. She's an awesome server and very attentive to all her tables. I had the avocado ranch burger and she had the Lanai burger. Both were absolutely delicious. Their burgers taste like REAL hamburgers that you would cook at home, none of these pre-cooked pre-seasoned things you get at some restaurants. They are definitely a burger that you will find yourself craving! I'm salivating just thinking about it.
I also went back that very same night for dinner with another friend, and I had the meatloaf. It was not a heavy and greasy meatloaf like you get at some places. It had an awesome flavor to it. Definitely worth ordering if you like meatloaf.
And finally, the desserts. Oh man, where do I start? So far I've only had the beignets and the chocolate molten lava cake. The beignets come out hot and delicious right from the kitchen, served with chocolate and raspberry dipping sauces. Honestly, you don't even need the sauces because they are so good even just plain, but it's just like icing on a cake! The chocolate lava thing is my favorite so far though. It's gourmet-style chocolate-y heavenly goodness! Served hot & fresh with raspberry sauce, you will want to lick the plate when you're done!
The people who work there so far seem to be very awesome, and you can tell that they enjoy working there. It's a great place for the whole family, and I strongly recommend trying it if you haven't already! Ask for Lauren and tell her Brian and MJ sent ya! ;-)
My first time there, pretty decent food. The place was clean and not too crowded. I had the tri-tip & bleu cheese sandwich. Not enough meat, too much horseradish. Pretty tasty though, would have it again but with extra meat next time. The meat itself was very good, I just wish there was a little more of it. Also, the sides were VERY good! I hate cole slaw with a passion and I actually enjoyed theirs. I also had a side of their garlic mashed potatoes and it was AWESOME!
I will definitely go back.
Greg Scillitani came highly recommended to me by the fine people over at Savior Plumbing. The plumbers had to cut a hole into my neighbor's ceiling, so I needed a drywall / texturer / painter guy to come fix the water damage and patch the access hole.
Greg is awesome. He was totally willing to work with my crazy schedule during the whole process. He flat-rated the job for a very reasonable price, and he showed up on time every time. Even came on a Saturday to finish the job! Greg was a pleasure to speak to, and he's a natural when it comes to this stuff. He also did some texturing after the hole was patched up, and as soon as he was done I absolutely could not see where he had just patched it. Most importantly, my neighbor was completely thrilled with the level of quality that Greg had demonstrated.
I have every confidence in Scillitani Services, and I highly recommend them to anyone with any sort of drywall / texturing / painting needs! Ask for Greg, he is great! He's very reliable, and was even willing to bill my landlord for everything. I couldn't have gotten a better guy!
I recently was tasked with finding a plumber for my leaky shower. Nobody I knew had any recommendations, so I turned to Yelp for some guidance. I am so glad I found this place!
Every time I called (during normal business hours) I actually got a live person. That says a lot these days. I was quickly put in touch with the owner (Tom) and he sent out his best man to check it out (Darrell). After telling Darrell what the problem was (my shower was leaking into my neighbor's garage below), he knew exactly what the problem was before even seeing it. After popping off my drain lid, he showed me exactly where the problem was and gave me an estimate for the job.
We set an appointment and he was there on time and never flaked (which in this industry is a major deal). It was obvious that he knows what he's doing too, because he knew exactly where to cut into the ceiling and how to get to the drain up above. By the time he had clear access to the drain, he was done in no time.
Their prices are reasonable, the people there are great, and I would recommend Savior Plumbing to ANYONE who needed a good plumb-job. They are very honest and reliable people, and most of all they are fair. They were even willing to bill my landlord directly for the job, which was very awesome.
Oh and ask for Darrell, he is THE MAN over there!
Ask anybody who knows me, and they will tell you that if it doesn't look like a cheeseburger, then I won't eat it. I'm a picky eater, and I especially don't like spicy foods.
Now having said that, I have to say that I absolutely love Chef India. I've never had Indian food before, and I've always hated curry-anything. But what they cook up there is absolutely delicious. If you're a spice-wimp like me, you can order your meal "mild" and it's still just spicy enough to add some flavor, but not too much where you have to drink a glass of milk with each bite.
As a recommendation to those who wish to play it safe, here are a few of my favorites:
For starters, the Paneer Pakora is really good. The dipping sauces they serve it with are not spicy and are delicious. And for the main course, the Chicken Korma and Chicken Tikka Masala are excellent. The Tikka Masala is a bit on the spicier side, but it has a wonderful flavor to it. Also, don't forget to get some naan to go with it. I prefer the garlic naan personally, but they're all good. Helps to neutralize the spiciness too.
Last but not least, the service there has always been awesome. The people who work there are always so courteous and thankful for your business. I always order to go, and they always offer me a drink while I wait. They also package up the food VERY well, which is nice for the way I drive, lol.
I strongly recommend this place to anyone who is looking to try something new or different.
