Can't get enough of this place! Went on date-night for the first time and had I had the fresca + wine/he had the margherita + beer. It was totally reminiscent of the last pizza we had in Rome at a Napolitana-style restaurant (aka our favorite pizza ever in the whole wide world). The best part is that we left full with a check around $40 for both of us.
Went back a few weeks later super early with our toddler and it was just as good. Tried the Taleggio and holy delicious cheese and sausage! It's going to be hard to choose next time!
(For the record, this place is not kid-friendly, which I like, but if you're itching for good pizza and want to bring your well-behaved babe out, come around 5:30 and bring your own high-chair. Everyone was super cool with it, and although we might not do it again soon, we enjoyed it a little more having her there, too.)
Best espresso in town + sweet, friendly baristas...what more do you want from a coffee shop? Good coffee isn't cheap (rightfully), and I find the prices of their offerings more than fair and on par with any other espresso bar in the US. I wouldn't bring my dad here whose favorite coffee is Folgers from his old Coffee Mate drip, so if that's more your vibe, this place might not be your favorite. But, it's definitely mine.
Well, these guys are awesome! I was a little skeptical of all the good reviews, thinking they were a little too good to be true, but now I'm totally in agreement.
Got into a 4-car accident on Guadalupe in March 2014. Another driver had State Farm and Nova is a suggested shop, so took the car there on a Wednesday. They set up Hertz to pick me and my daughter up for a rental. The bumper and trunk of my X3 were both replaced and my car was fixed and ready the following Tuesday. They showed me pictures of the step-by-step process they followed in repairing, and I left my rental with them to have Hertz retrieve it. It was seriously the easiest, most pain-free experience I've had with any type of car place - mechanical, cosmetic or sales.
The icing on the cake was that my husband came with me to pick up the car and asked them to take a look at some door issues he was having with this car, and they fixed BOTH doors for FREE! These guys have stellar customer service on top of being experts in car body work. Go here!
We went back to Fabi + Rosi - specifically for the mussels and chocolate mousse that were such a great memory for us, but we found that both had been significantly reduced in size and risen in price. It's a shame, really...why mess with a good thing?
I started out as a huge fan of Papi Tino's. The ambiance is intimate and charming and it's the perfect place to pass a warm summer evening with someone close. My husband and I have gone several times, and I've even taken my MIL to dinner there to try out their delicious enchiladas. I'm a total food creature of habit and always go back for something that's left a good impression on me. For me, that was the enchiladas suizas at Papi Tino's.
Unfortunately, though, the last (6th or 7th time) I was there, I discovered that Papi Tino's had given in to the sad trend befallen many other new Austin restaurants (e.g. Fabi + Rosi). It really disappointed me to see that they had increased the price of their enchiladas suizas from $11 to $13 and that they no longer served them with a small side of beans. So, to get the same dish I'd been paying $11 for over the past few visits, I'd now have to pay $15 for. While I do respect the need for a new, up-and-coming restaurant to reassess their menu, I find it rather ridiculous that they expected to make up their extra margin on $2 refried beans (that they are also offering on their appetizer menu for $5....for refried beans! In Texas!).
On top of the price increase, I noticed a decrease in the quality of the enchiladas, which were not as soft and well-cooked as they'd been in the past. Perhaps I was served a bad batch, but with the new price and only 3 tables to serve on a Wednesday evening, I did expect a bit more from them.
I'll go back when I have a hankering for a refreshing concoction, but I'll sadly have to find my suiza enchilada fix elsewhere in the city.
Start with a strong toddy, play a little Mexican scrabble, then move onto the best jalapeño-infused bloody Mary in Austin, nibbling on some savory empanadas in between. Love the delicious grimeyness of this place!
The green chile stew and corn tortillas are just HEAVENLY! They have a pretty good happy hour here, too...a variety of cocktails if you're the cocktail type, and a few decent beers on tap. But, go here for the green chile stew. I've had other things here before, and they've all been rather good, but only the chile stew is worth writing home about.
A great bar when you don't want to go to a bar, but want good beer with a table-full of friends. I mostly just like going to this place on a lazy weekend for the deck and beer selection, but I stay away on busy nights.
