Overrated, overpriced, overdone. It's great to be creative with dishes, but creativity with every single dish overwhelms the palate with too many unusual flavors. My friend and I spent $32 on a lunch that was good if it were $16, but not $32 good. Also, the restaurant is very loud, so grab a patio table unless you bring your ear plugs.
I think their pad thai is super good. When I have pad thai at other restaurants, I compare it to Celadon's, and I haven't found one yet that I like more. And their tom kah gai (coconut milk soup) is also excellent. I've also had the yellow curry chicken and sauteed mixed vegetables which are good, but I tend to order pad thai over and over again.
The restaurant decor is nice, but it is very noisy when the small restaurant is busy, so I try to sit at one of the patio tables where the traffic noise is less loud : )
I've had hundreds of massages and Reiko-san is one of the best massage therapists I've ever had--if not the very best! I've been a customer of Reiko-san's for 20 years, and her massage style suits my body perfectly. She's strong, but not overly so, and her Shiatsu technique is spot on. She works miracles on my neck, shoulders and back. She also does the best back elbow massage--an art unto itself. If her prices were a true reflection of her talent and skill, they would easily be double or triple the cost! I tip generously because the prices are so low for the high level of quality service.
Daisuke-san is also wonderful and so nice. He was my regular massage therapist while Reiko was on hiatus. He's very skilled and works miracles like Reiko-san.
If you want a first-class Shiatsu massage, come to Kenkoh Land. They also have REAL massage tables with proper face cradles which are so much more comfortable than the ones at Chinese and Korean places.
I always order the California Chicken Salad--my favorite! It's a good size and very filling as it has avocado, fusilli pasta, a small scoop of feta which tastes great with the pita, and chicken of course. And their ranch dressing is the best!
I always order the salad to go, and a few times, they've forgotten an ingredient or the dressing, so I check to make sure everything is there before I leave.
You can also phone in your order in advance and pick up "curbside" which is really convenient. Note that the "curb" is BEHIND the restaurant through the alley--it's not at the front of the restaurant.
I had one of the wraps, which was really good too.
I recently moved to Bixby Knolls from the South Bay and love the sense of community here. I heard great things about Auntie Lucy's on Nextdoor and wanted to support a local, independently-owned business, so I came by for grain-free food for my two cats. Lucy recommended By Nature, which my cats are enjoying very much--even the finicky girl.
If you want personalized attention and someone who truly cares about the food your beloved pets eat, visit Auntie Lucy's. The store is open till 8:00 pm Mon-Sat, so it's really convenient to come after work.
Unfortunately Frascati is no longer in business. We wanted to go there yesterday evening for dinner, but the lights were out and there was a sign on the door. We went to Restaurant Christine in Torrance which was excellent as usual.
We are visiting Virginia for our first time from Los Angeles and had a wonderful dinner on a warm April evening in the patio. The beet salad, fried oysters, New England-style clam chowder and key lime pie (very light) were delicious. The clam chowder is listed as an entree on the menu (with an entree price, and as a fan of clam chowder, I had to try it!), and it is definitely a satisfying meal unto itself.
The wine selection by-the-glass was also very good: Horton Viognier (I didn't know Virginia produced wines!), A-Z Pinot Noir and Argyle Riesling both from Oregon. Our server was very friendly and accommodating and made the evening even more enjoyable. I loved the attention to the detail shown in the dinnerware, serving ware, small wine carafe, flatware, etc.
I highly recommend The Trellis and would love to return.
I had a completely different experience with Universal Towing than Geoffrey B. did. I completely believe his story, and I feel really bad for him! I could see how something like that could happen on a rare occasion.
On 3/6/10, my car stalled in downtown LA, and my friend who was with me has AAA Plus. A tow truck from Universal Towing came in 10 minutes, much to my relief, even though the dispatcher said it would take at least 30 minutes. He loaded the car onto a flat-bed in less than 5 minutes, and we reached my destination 20 minutes later in Torrance.
The tow-truck operator was very courteous, nice, skilled and professional. I was thankful that he arrived as quickly as he did because my car was stuck in a driving lane on Temple and Hill on a rainy night. He made the ordeal of having car problems in downtown not a big deal afterall. I am always grateful when a tow-truck operator comes to my rescue!
This car wash was my preference. However, they have raised the cost of the Wednesday special to $9.95. I can get the same level of service at the Gardena Car Wash near my office for $7.99 (with a 5-pack coupon). Granted, the ambience is not the same!
