Great overall experience. I needed a quick tire swap after hitting a pothole. ATA quickly procured a hard to find tire and installed next day. Only drawback was jr tech didn't properly inflate tires and had to stop on the way home to top-up.
Overwhelmingly great service. Thoroughly knowledgable and guided me and my guests through a wonderful meal. Highlights include grilled octopus, tomato salad, grilled lamb and lentils. Also, excellent selection of hard to find Greek white wines.
One of the most authentic casual Italian restaurants in Chicago. The trattoria across the street is an elevated but similar experience. I can think of a few comparably solid, well-executed Italian food experience. While Chicago has no short supply of Italian experiences, most are overly Italian *American* and thus compromised.
Extraordinary hot place given the outsized demand for summer inspired anything in Chicago. Average food. Slow -- either overwhelmed by demand or under prepared / trained -- staff. Hopefully service improves over time with feedback because this place has a lot of potential.
Brunch experience was... exceedingly above average in all respects -- service, food, cocktails, baked goods, etc. After sampling 4 dishes with my diningmates we all concluded everything was excellent. Spicy bloodmaries were a hit and services was perfect brunch pace. Brunch competition in Chicago is stiff and Beatrix, while not a tier 1 place, is right up there.
I'm thrilled that this is my neighborhood place. IMHO it strikes the right balance of a good, but not overwhelming, bar / beer menu, a great old-timey atmosphere w/o trying too hard, and very well executed bar food. Further, service is commensurate with this place's vibe...no 22 yr old sorority sister trying to get you drunk but no one ignores you.
All you have to say is "char dog and run it through the garden". You will not regret it. Traditional but well executed Chicago-style dog with premium ingredients. While hot dogs are not my go-to fast food, I find myself craving Dog Joint's char dogs.
