This is a lovely wee treasure trove of handmade, often Scottish themed gifts. It's not your usual tartan twee however. Yes of course there's tartan but it's fresh and bright and used in interesting ways! There's also a lot of Harris Tweed. From art to jewellery, mugs, stationary, cards and candles it is the best place in Milngavie to pick up a card and gift.

      Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow

Definitely one of THE best pubs in town. I can sit here by myself and feel entirely comfortable. It's tucked away just off Sauchiehall Street and is an olde-world looking pub with wood, leather and brass a-plenty. The staff are friendly and knowledgable about their large selection of real aleas and whiskys. Happy to give you a wee taster of their draught beers if you are not sure about it. They have certain regular ales but also guest asles that change every week. They are keen on supposting local, small and independent and Scotland wide breweries too, so it's not just your run of the mill ales you get here.

For those amongst us who prefer a lager over an ale (mee!!) they have a few, with Estrella Damm and Staropramen bringing a wee European flavour alongside the ubiquitous Tennents and Fosters. There is also a wide selection of spirits, bottled beers and drinks such as Crabbies and Kopparberg.

They have a smaller downstairs bar which hosts regular comedy and acoustic nights, and if you remember to inquire early enough you can book it for your birthday or other occasions. The staff are also happy to reserve a table or two in the upstairs bar if you ask nicely :)

I've been a regular here for about 8 years now and I cannot believe I'm only just getting round to reviewing it! Probably because I'm having such a good time when I'm here that I don't bother to take my phone out my pocket ;)

Went on Tuesday for Steak Night. Ended up getting a refund and leaving after one mouthful of food. The steaks were orange! They were covered in some sort of rub or marinade, which three separate members of staff (including the bar manager and the kitchen manager) tried to assure me is 'how they've been done for around two years now'. After I informed the manager that Mr M and I were regulars there and especially on Steak Night, and had been for around two years now and this was the first time we had EVER had a hot, spicy orange steak we were EVENTUALLY offered a replacement meal. We declined this offer, got a refund and left.

I know one of the other managers of this bar personally (he wasn't there) so I asked him, and he confirms that yes, they do use that seasoning combo, but no, it shouldn't be hot and spicy and turn the meat orange. Someone somewhere screwed up and instead of instantly apologising and offering a replacement we were fobbed off by the same repeated word for word rubbish. HAs dented my liking of this particular Wetherspoons!

I was a big fan of one of the previous restaurants in this unit, seafood place Crabby Macs. Was sad to see it go. This unit seems similarly doomed as the unit in Finnieston which now houses Rockus.

Anyhoo, all that aside, Mr M and I had decided we were in the mood for burgers and were in the vicinity of Otago Street. We wandered along expecting to see Skinny's, which had been the most recent incarnation but were pleasantly surprised to see a sign declaring 'Mess Cantina, Tex Mex'. A quick look over the menu convinced us to give it a try.

It was difficult make a choice as everything on the menu looked delicious! We eventually settled on a Rodeo Burger each, which comes with bacon, bbq sauce and Monterey Jack cheese. Mess is one of the growing number of eateries which sells the fries/chips separately. This used to confuse and annoy me but now I'm glad of it. The recent trend of mega-massive burgers has meant I've been struggling to finish a full meal in some places. And sometimes all I want is the burger! Here you have the choice of fries for £2 or £1 if you order with a main. We opted to share a portion of £2.95 sweet potato fries, a side of coleslaw and a corn on the cob each.

Well. Where to start? The sweet potato fries were well tasty, and a portion big enough that it did the two of us just fine. The corn was lovely, resting in a wee bucket of melted butter. I thought the coleslaw was a bit meh but Mr M loved it and polished it off. The all-important burger...looked small but was actually perfectly sized. It had a char-grilled flavour and was meaty and juicy. This burger comes in a brioche bun and it all held together very well, none of the usual slipping out the side!

They have a fairly small drinks menu, we opted for a Samuel Adams Boston lager. You don't get pints, you get schooners, which I think is around 2/3 of a pint? All in it cost us under £30 and we were full without feeling stuffed. Very friendly and good service from the staff too. We are definitely going to go back as we fancy trying many more of the tasty sounding burgers and Mexican dishes on offer.

Waitrose has a reputation as an over-priced shop that only 'posh' people go to. (Sainsburys used to be thought of in a similar manner!) I was fairly nervous, but curious, the first time I went but I have gone back many times since! For most brand name items like Heinz or Flora its generally no dearer than other supermarkets.

Where it gets a bit dearer is in the fish and meat. However, this is due to it being of such goid quality. I have never had a bad piece from here. It's fun to go for a wander round on Sunday evening after I finish work and pick up some reduced stuff, often you can get whole joints of pork or beef for just a few quid, and their own brand sausages are worth picking up on the 2 for £5 deal. 12 sausages for a fiver is a good buy, especially since they are sooooo good and come in a variety of flavours. They don't leak water and are big and juicy!

The cheese section is awesome, and their bakery section has some lovely goodies, both sweet and savoury. The fruit and veg can definitely be dearer than asda, for example, with not much difference in quality but if you just need to pick up a lettuce or sime broccoli on your way home it won't bankrupt you. Their coffee machine makes a decent latte, and you can get a free one if you are a Waitrose loyalty card holder. The staff are always smart, polite and helpful.

One of my favourite supermarkets now!
