When making an appointment, you need to have a credit card to give them incase of a cancellation.
I really wanted to like this place.
We've gotten plenty of massages in the past and when we saw the amazon local deal we figured we would go for it since it is so close to our house.
We got the ascension massage.
-Front desk staff was always nice and helpful (through booking the appointment to the actual day of.)
-My masseuse let me choose my own scent (Although my friend's masseuse did not).
-Tony is a great masseur (or so I hear, my friend was the one who had him): he took his time and focused on all of her problem areas. You can tell he knows what he is doing. She has Rheumatoid Arthritis and usually can't lift her leg higher than a few inches- after the massage she was able to lift it very high up.
-Maybe she was a PT, maybe she didn't realize how hard she was pushing down on my skin. Whatever the reason, my massage has made me ache for days.
Massages should NEVER hurt.
-There is no changing room, you change in the spa room and if you get my masseuse, you won't get a knock on the door to ask if you are ready. You will get someone who barges right in.
-My masseuse left the room repeatedly during the massage (why?)
-Why would workers (nail technicians to be exact) stand directly in front of the door to a spa room that was occupied and talk with their clients there? That's not normal and the nail spot was far down the hall so there was no reason to be in the spa room area
-My masseuse pushed making another appointment for the next few weeks. I understand you're looking for business but that does not help but does the opposite
-Their "relaxation room" has no door on it so it's not very relaxing
I wouldn't recommend this place
Came with a Groupon
The service: THE best I have ever experienced at a salon. The owner(?) was very pleasant and wanted to make sure everything was going smoothly. Very sweet ladies all around.
Maura cut my hair and she is wonderful! You can tell she has a lot of experience and knows what she is doing. She's very friendly and I'm pretty happy with my haircut.
Deanna cut a friend's hair and she was not as happy with the cut. In fact, Maura had to step in to try and fix it. In the end, Deanna had cut too much off and it was uneven. If you have short hair, I do not recommend Deanna but I've heard plenty of good stories about her so I'm sure she's better with longer hair.
All-in-all: Would recommend this salon and will be back if there is another Groupon.
Came with a restaurant.com giftcard
Ambiance: It's in Forest Hills, it looks like a Chinese food place- nothing special but when you're in Forest Hills, you shouldn't expect much.
Food: Ordered the "regular sushi" combo and a bunch of vegetarian rolls. Nothing was bad but nothing was spectacular. Miso soup needs to be mixed more in their kitchen (When you use store bought paste and leave it all day, you need to make sure it's at least mixed well enough).
Service: nothing crazy spectacular. The younger girl was very pleasant but the older one wasn't. Probably because we had that restaurant.com deal
Bill: This pissed me off the most. Usually when a waiter adds their own tip to the bill, they label it- not sushi akio. I usually give 25% but hey, you want to add 20% without labeling it- go ahead. That's all you'll get. Why label everything else? This is the main reason I will not be coming back- even if I had another deal.
All-in-all: Will not be coming back, do not recommend this place at all.
Came in with a living social deal, really enjoyed the optometrist and the salesperson (Alex) Both made us feel at home and Alex helped us pick out our frames. After we picked them out, even the optometrist wanted to see how they looked! The optometrist REALLY knows her stuff.
Very friendly and will definitely be back. Already gave some friends their info.
First I want to say to Jim T, the guy who was pissed that they were closed on Saturday: you do realize that the owners may be Jewish, yes? How culturally insensitive can you be? Calm down.
As for my review:
I got the Israeli Falafel sandwich, tasted great! My problem was that it doesn't list meat under its ingredients and yet somehow I had some chicken or some kind of meat in there. Problem with that? I'm a vegetarian. I emailed them and heard nothing back. DEFINITELY won't be back.
My absolute favorite vegan/vegetarian place. While the service is not always up to par there are a few waiters who are so kind and make up for the others. I love seeing this place packed I hope they never close because I would not be able to live without their Avocado BLT.
Main point for my update: TRY THE RASPBERRY "CHEESECAKE" JUST DO IT.
It's heaven in your mouth
Got the Avocado Summer Roll as an appetizer- They were amazing. So many summer rolls have an overpowering mint taste to them, not this one! Great mix of crunchy from the carrots and cucumber and soft texture from the avocado (can't go wrong with avocado!) Got the pad thai with tofu- for 9 bucks the portion was huge! I had to take some home. Their Thai Tea is also A+, not too sweet! The only problem I had was with the dessert it was a lychee cheesecake- I wasn't a fan but that might have been just my taste.
Quick note: My mom got some pad thai as well and it says on the menu that you can get sundried tomatoes(? or something else, definitely sundried something) for no additional charge and after requesting this with the waiter, she didn't end up getting it but no worries!
So service wasn't that great- sometimes you see people walk around for 10 mins with water jugs and then they don't come around for 20 mins when you actually NEED the water.
All in all will be back!
Got a message from manager(?) saying they'd love for me to come back and try something different, they'd give me some consolation so I agreed and haven't heard back- this was 2 months ago.
