I take back what I said in my previous review about the bloody being too smoky for my tastes. Get it with the infused vodka. Spicy perfection.
The Mr. and I just moved here from Chicago, where shops like Cermak seem to be more common. We used to do almost all of our shopping at a similar store, so I was a little bummed at the price of produce at our local Sendik's and Sentry in Tosa. So.... I found Cermak - problem solved!
The produce here is amazing, in variety and price. Seriously, this store has the cheapest produce I've ever seen, and it looks better than the stuff I saw the other night at a bigger local chain.
Prices on items in the rest of the store aren't all as cheap compared to other stores, but not outrageous either. Something else that's super cheap, though, is their olive bar. The most expensive olives at their olive bar are about 1/2 the price of all olives at the olive bar at other grocery stores in the area. At this moment, I'm eating probably the best olives I've ever had, and they were ridiculously cheap.
Bonus - they make fresh tortillas on site. They've got you covered if you need frozen birdmilk cake (no idea wtf that is), fried plantain cups, or need to buy double cream Bulgarian feta by the bucket..
I've been here twice, and found it strangely close to empty both times. All the food I've eaten here has been very, very good. I had a great salad the first time (seriously, super delicious), and an excellent black bean burger on my second visit. Also, poutine. In traditional style, their gravy doesn't have meat in it, so I can gorge on poutine and still call myself a vegetarian.
They have great specials, good food, and look like they could use the business - go here.
1 star deducted because their wraps use a tortilla that's really dense and not good tasting - takes a whole bunch of options off the menu for me.
I love their salads and chili! Their marinated tofu is really good. I really appreciate having a lunch spot nearby that has plenty of healthy veg options. Superfood Vegan salad 4-evah. Don't let the name scare you away.
I've been spinning here for nearly a year, and love it. Thank goodness I started out with a groupon - midway through the first class I thought I might die/vomit/something more terrible, but because I had 4 more classes left, and an encouraging friend, I kept with it. Since then, I've gotten more fit, over my fear of the non-level 1 classes, and have branched out to The Gun Show and 1000 Calorie Burn - both of which are awesome. The instructors are all very motivational, play a wide variety of (mostly) great music, and generally get you to work your butt off.
The price is steep if you drop in, so buy a package, or better yet get on their e-mail list so you'll be alerted when they're running specials.
Silk Style is great, and so is Maria, who I go to for cuts. The price is affordable, and I've had nothing but great experiences here. I've seen at least 2 other people besides Maria, and had good experiences each time, so I'm confident that it's hard to go wrong here. My husband and his brother come here for cuts from Buzz, who they both really like.
Mirsa has done a great job with my brows. The price is reasonable, and she's a threading master. I've had her dye them twice, though once ended up too dark. I probably won't dye them again, but she's my go-to for threading.
This place is my jam. Their falafel sandwich is the best I've had in Chicago, and perhaps best I've had anywhere (SE Michigan transplant, here). I'm already plotting my return after my first visit last night.
If I had to find any fault, I'd say their prices are a smidge high compared to other falafel spots. Then, if I could contradict myself, I'd say it's more than warranted because their food is so tasty. Second critique, my husband would say that the sandwich could be bigger, but my counterpoint would be that we don't always have to gorge ourselves. Him: "Says who? I love gorging myself. That's MY jam."
