You will notice that when a place is stellar, or horrible I will write this long, rambling soliloquy or monologue. Yet, when I hit a middle of the road place...my review is a little boring. Well, welcome to one of those.

The place is comfortable. The music is fun. . It's clean. It's dark. All around it's a likable place.

Yet, the drinks are not worth the price. The food...not worth the price. I love that I live and play in Bishop Arts. I understand the cost of doing business there. So, I would never dissuade someone from going there.

Just be prepared to pay a larger tab, for a normal drink and food order.

I don't know what to say, still, at this point. In my 45 years on this earth, I have seen some things. Weird things. Odd things. Beautiful things.

This was all those wrapped up in one. The Libertarian in me has always advocated that this is the way to solve our tax problems. The Realist says that we, as a populace, are not to be trusted with grand freedoms.

Yet, I was shocked. I was shocked by the presence, the atmosphere, the professionalism. I was shocked by the knowledge, and friendliness. I was shocked by the freedom of the entire place. It smelled great. It was a comfortable environment. It was...for lack of any better word in my vocabulary......high-class.

I still hate California, but man is it trying to win me over?!?!

Anytime I see the word Gumbo on a menu, I raise an eyebrow. See, I'm from Houston. Though I'm not from the swaps of Cajun country, anyone can tell you Houston is in that alleyway. I know my swamp food.

I want to say this, with absolute sincerity. This was quite possibly the perfect place to have lunch in San Diego. The locale is in the heart of the city. Yet, unassuming enough that you are automatically calmed upon entering.

The server, Austin, was attentive, and "johnny on the spot" with everything.

The Gumbo(yes it's capitalized) was delicious, and served with corn bread that my dad would be proud to drizzle honey onto. It was delicious. Just an unbelievable lunch, by myself.

That being said, I just realized, i need more lunches like this.

I need this breakfast again. In so many ways. The worst part about this breakfast was knowing I was leaving this same day. The pancakes were light and fluffy. The waitress(man I wish i could remember her name) was fun, and laughed at my jokes. Great drinks, great food, great atmosphere, and company that I miss more than they know.

Thank you for a phenomenal start to what ended up being an oddly sad last breakfast in San Diego.
