I have been here several times over the last 10 years or so. It is hands down the best Chinese food on the island and I have been to many (fast food and restaurant style). Do takeout or delivery, dine in isn't impossible but the decor isn't that great. The downside is the price, I feel and know they keep raising their prices that it's actually making me rethink going solely to this place for Chinese food. Wish we could rate on pricing and food separately as pricing would get 2 stars and food 5. What to order: steamed shrimp dumplings, roast pork and shrimp dumpling udon soup, chicken with broccoli.
Went to this place on recommendation. We decided to do take out and ordered the Baked Clams, Royal Pier Pizza and Penne with vodka sauce and grilled chicken. The food was very good. The clams were a bit dry but still had good flavor, just wish they added some lemon sauce in there. The pizza was excellent, had a lot of meat but if you are looking for a bigger pie, get the 16", not the 14". The vodka sauce was done right. The negative, it's far from my house, almost near the ferry.
I went to Dr. Fred because of the 2 5-star reviews on Yelp and it was close to my house. I don't normally trust highly reviewed Staten Island businesses just because of past experiences that were not too great. I was so happy to be proven wrong especially where my first puppy was concerned. Dr. Fred seemed happy and loving towards my dog and very friendly. My puppy did not seem nervous or anything and was well behaved around him. The prices seemed reasonable (around $90 for first visit). They do not take American Express and you must spend $25 minimum to use credit card. There is parking because it is in a plaza which is an extra plus. I would recommend and made an appointment for next month.
I have been wanting to eat at more restaurants on Staten Island, usually travel to Jersey or Brooklyn and Manhattan. I went about 8ish pm, it was very crowded, usually a good sign. I liked the decor very much. I sat by the entrance, not a great table because the person that sits by the door gets the cold air on their back and the people waiting for tables are right by your table. It was mostly uncomfortable because you have peoples bottoms in your face while eating. The table ordered calamari, shrimp quesadilla and chimichanga tapatia. We were served chips and what I call a tomato sauce salsa. We never got the calamari. We eventually received our food, about 25-30 minutes later which I wouldn't have minded if we had gotten our appetizer. The food wasn't bad but it was nothing to rave about. The quesadilla I had was boring, only shrimp/cheese nd some sour cream. The chimichanga tapatia was ok. I probably won't be going back just because the food was alright. We waited for our check which we got 2 of for some reason that created confusion. Also there was a lot of waitstaff but more often than not they were not on the floor. I felt the price for the food was bit high for what we got. Did not understand the crowd and parking was difficult. Plan on parking at least 2 blocks away.
I went to Mister Hotpot around midnight, it was only my table and another. I had never had hotpot but kind of had an idea on it. The staff was super friendly and helped us with ordering and cooking the meal. We ordered pork belly, crystal crab, spinach, chinese cabbage and udon noodles at full spicy broth. The crystal crab was amazing but at market price ($37), I felt it was a bit expensive, I'd stick to the other delicious and cheaper meats and seafood. And a piece of advice- don't get full spicy unless you are a pro, we got full spicy broth and it was too spicy. I still enjoyed the food but much rather enjoy it at half spicy. Will definitely be going back.
