I had the carne asada torta. Soggy on the bottom, which can indicate juicy goodness. Not. Meat was tough and grisly. Wife ordered carnitas burrito. The pork tasted like it was boiled. Daughter got bean and cheese burrito. Mediocre. Chips were cold as ice. Salsa, bland. When we entered the front door, the bus person was cleaning a table with a smelly rag. We should have left right then.
Good quality produce at excellent prices. That's what this place is known for. I went in for a quick pasta dinner, and was impressed with the selection! Pasta galore, from five or six different makers, and the sauce was cheaper than that big box down the street. They carry one of my favorite beers: Leffe Blonde and the wine selection is great. Customer service is good, and the turkey I ordered for Thanksgiving was delicious!
Went here with a friend on the way home from bicycle ride in the East Bay hills. Usually, after a long ride, anything tastes good. I wasn't a big fan of Pyramid beer in the first place, but I hadn't tasted it in a while, so...
Due to my skepticism, I ordered McTarnahan's Inkblot Baltic Porter. Only later did I realize, this was also a Pyramid brew, under a different name.
First off, the pouring was terribly done, presented in a pint glass with zero head. This isn't a keg party, people! I asked the waitress to pour it into a proper glass. To her credit, she did so efficiently. Still a bad pour, with close to no head. Despite that, the beer had a nice aroma, with some nice caramel and plum notes. Taste was somewhat acidic, though easy to drink. Spiciness on finish, but would expect more with a Baltic porter. Pretty easy to drink, and I should have had another, because the rest of Pyramid's offerings are close to drain pours.
I had the iceberg wedge, which was fine, but really hard to screw up. Next time, I'll go to Trumer Brauerei. Duh.
Date night on a Thursday. Came expecting to wait, but they had a table right away. First thing we noticed were all the kids. Not a bad thing, but Yelp indicated it was not good for kids. I think the restaurant needs to edit that, since they were everywhere, even at the bar.
Ordered a pomegranate sake-tini and cucumber sake-tini. Pomegranate came in a highball glass with ice. Cucumber in a "pseudo martini" glass. Cucumber was nice and refreshing, but I felt it wasn't cold enough. I could hear the bartender making it, and he shook it for about three shakes. Come on now. Shake that thing for a good 60 seconds, already.
Soft shell crab app was delicious. Gyoza also very good. I ordered the Hamachi teriyaki, my wife ordered sushi. The fish was done perfectly, and came with veggies and a bowl of rice. The vegetables were ok. Sushi was really good and fresh. Got the Suntory beer, which went very well with the fish. Nice malty nose, with a faint hint of hops. Typical pale lager.
Tab with drinks and tip around $85.00. I might go back for the food, not for the drinks.
I hadn't eaten here in many months, but I'm glad I went back. I ordered vegetable samosas and Punjabi lamb curry to go. The samosas were bigger than I remembered, and perfectly flaky outside with a generous serving of potatoes and peas on the inside. Paired with the spicy green chutney, it hit the spot!
The Punjabi lamb curry was the perfect blend of spice, and went well with the Cab I was drinking. I was really pleased with the meal, and I will go back soon.
The fried chicken and grits were delicious. Jodie was really helpful with our young daughter, being the picky eater.
The scrambled eggs were really good, just the way I like em. Soft and rich!
Glad for the Crystals hot sauce on the counter to go with the wonderfully cooked chicken. Definitely a treat. I'll be going back for the BBQ "Obama Special" breakfast.
You get what you pay for, and for $11.00, I should have known better. I really wanted it to be good, but...
My hair was much longer than any of the guys in there. Rick started out using the clippers, and I just closed my eyes and tried to think good thoughts. Anyway, it didn't take too long, and I think he massaged me longer than most to keep me relaxed.
I'm sure he is good with short hair, and I wanted to believe the barbers were well rounded in their profession.
It will grow back.
