Took my wife here for her birthday on a Tuesday night. No music on this night, but a nice upscale vibe. We sat in the main dining room which was very nice, but will probably come back for lunch or brunch for the view!
The scallops with gnocchi were great, as was the quail with risotto. The lobster mac and cheese side was very nice, but the calamari was just okay. Not bad, but not mind-blowing. Also, the bread they provide is not very good to be honest. They also provided a complimentary birthday dessert, which was a nice little treat to end the meal. All in all the food was expertly prepared, a couple of minor items (bread and calamari) missed the mark a bit for me. The things that were good were REALLY good though.
The service we received was really great! Our server was Johan, who was very attentive and helpful. A real highlight. Also, we were taken to our table by a gentleman who was actually the director of food at the hotel and he was super nice and professional with us as well. I mentioned when I made the reservation that it was my wife's birthday and without mentioning it she was wished a happy birthday throughout the meal starting with the moment we were greeted. Well done!
Tried Mrs. Taco for the first time today. Had a California Burrito, and it was really good! A bit different than many California Burritos. It didn't have french fries, but cooked potatoes, which turned out really good. Service was friendly, and the restaurant is much nicer than most Mexican spots around town. Not very busy around 1:00pm on a Sunday, but I've heard it can be. Saw signs for Mariachi on Friday nights. There's even a nice patio. Much bigger and nicer than I thought the restaurant would be from the outside.
It just doesn't get any better than Beach Break for breakfast! This place was killing it in a small location, so they built a brand new building down the street. I've heard nothing but good things about every item on the menu, but whatever you get do yourself a favor and choose the homestyle potatoes and coffee cake with your breakfast... THE BEST! Great food, and great prices!
Walked into The Habit without any preconceived expectations. Walked out satisfied!
There are a lot of "premium" burger joints opening up in the area, which are generally good but very expensive. This is not that type of place (which was kind of what I expected). Prices are more in line with In-N-Out, which is great. I found the burger to be very good, and the fries were great!
It's hard not to compare to other places when reviewing a burger spot. In-N-Out is still the absolute king of fast food burgers. As I mentioned, there are also lots of "premium" places that are good but charge you a premium. This is somewhere in between, and we'll most likely be back soon!
I found Veggie Grill to be a disappointment. Having never been there, the helpful young lady at the entrance filled us in on what they offered. She mentioned that the Santa Fe Crispy Chickin' is their top seller, so I ordered it. What better thing to start with than something that must be a crowd-pleaser.
I found the sandwich itself to be very bland. The "chickin" was just flat out not good, in my opinion. Didn't taste like much of anything. The toppings were fine. It had a decent guacamole on top. But the sandwich was wholly unsatisfying. I found myself wishing I had gone somewhere else for lunch, because I felt underwhelmed and paid a premium for what I thought would be great food.
To add insult to injury, I looked at the nutrition facts when I got home on their website and they were TERRIBLE. I feel like Veggie Grill borderline cons people into thinking they are eating healthy. That may be a stretch, and I know it's everyone's individual responsibility to eat as healthy as they want. But this place obviously markets itself as a healthy vegan alternative to your everyday restaurant. I didn't just look at what I ate (I know it was probably not the healthiest item on Earth), but I looked at what my wife ate and several other items. I would have actually been better off going to a local fast-food joint in terms of nutrition, and I'm not exagerrating! This, to me, was truly the most disappointing thing about Veggie Grill. I can accept the fact that sometimes I just don't like stuff (I would just not go there again), but the unhealthiness of their food really rubbed me the wrong way.
My wife and I tried Burger Lounge for lunch today. I ordered the Classic which was VERY good for what is considered a standard burger. Burger itself had a crispiness too it without being hard and stiff. Cooked perfectly and juicy. My wife ordered the Veggie Burger. I had a bite and it was also very tasty! Well done, Burger Lounge! We didn't order any sides.
Only reason this place isn't getting 5 stars is the price. We all know we're going to pay a premium at these "premium burger" places (grass-fed beef, organic cheese, etc.) so it wasn't a surprise at all. But it is truly the only thing keeping me from going here much more often.
With that being said, I will be a semi-regular customer. Especially working right down the street, it will be a nice treat for lunch on occassion.
My wife and I gave The Grove a try tonight after making a dinner reservation. Had no idea what to expect, but long story short the food and service were fantastic.
Raymond was our server and did a great job. Not uptight for a "nice" dinner spot, and very personable. He, along with the other staff clearing our plates and keeping our glasses full, were constantly checking on us and we never had to seek someone out for assistance.
I ordered the New York steak, and the temperature was impeccable. Seriously spot on. We split the lobster mac and cheese which was truly a highlight of the meal. My wife got the chicken dish which I tried and it was great too. The calamari appetizer was unique in a very good way. Overall the food surpassed our expectations! We were too full for dessert, however.
Looking at the menu beforehand, we knew this place fancied itself a top-tier restaurant which is hard to live up to in the San Diego area. But they seriously delivered! If only they had better slots in the casino we'd probably come by more often! Curious to try the lunch menu sometime soon.
This review is for the PetsHotel only. We've taken our small dog to Day Camp 2 or 3 times here, and an overnight stay once over New Year's Eve. Every time so far the staff has been extremely pleasant, and genuinely seem to enjoy what they do and the time they spend with the dogs. Last time, the young lady even seemed really sad that ours was leaving! They even took care of our dog's nails during the most recent stay, which most actual groomers have difficulty doing (she's a bit squirmy). The rest of the store we've done minimal shopping in and it is a standard PetSmart in that regard. Nothing particularly bad, but nothing write home about. All in all, very impressed with PetsHotel staff and hope it continues on future trips. Wish more local PetSmarts had a PetsHotel in them... this is the only one in the North County area!
Went into it looking at used 2012 and 2013 Kia Souls, as my wife and I were pre-approved for a used car loan through Capital One. Ended up with a brand new 2014 Kia Soul for a very similar payment. Had a great experience with Internet Manager Chris (and his partner Jesus) and Finance Manager Norman. A couple of top-notch guys! We absolutely love the car and that new car smell! Got my very first car at this dealership about 13 years ago as a teenager (a 2001 Kia Rio). Happy to be a customer again!
