This review is for the brewery tour at Weihenstephan. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to try the restaurant but thought the tour was informative and very well done. The brewery claims to be the oldest in the world, so it was interesting to learn about their history and how they've maintained the taste of their beers over so many hundreds of years. It was about an hour long, and it's recommended that you email them to make reservations ahead of time. Also I think it was about 25 euros a person. After the tour we had several complimentary tastings and spent some time at their store, which mostly consisted of beers (no surprise) and a small selection of souvenirs. They're having their anniversary in 2040, which I think would be an awesome time to visit (or visit again), especially if you love weihenstephan.

Visited back in November 2023 and it was a little tricky to find even with the GPS. But, it was worth the drive to get there.
The food was great it was not as salty as the other places we visited in Munich(e.g Hofbrau Haus, Austiner). We had the schnitzel, roasted duck and shweinshaxe. All very good,
The schnitzel was very tasty and tender. The roast duck was moist and not gamey; very savory and succulent.
The schweinshaxe was tender but kept the integrity of the skin was intact and crispy.
The service was great because we arrived in between lunch and dinner. But it was pretty busy in the "cafe " area. It seems the servers were from university; students working as a side hustle.
The ambiance was that of a beer hall with a hunter's motif very cozy in the area we were seated (the right side of the building as you enter the door.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Matthew K.Elgin, Vereinigte Staaten20355. Jan. 2024
The brewery tour was interesting, and the sampling gave substantial samples of each beer they had to sample.

Let me start by saying if you don't like beer this is probably not the place for you. This is the oldest brewery in the world and makes beer in a very traditional way and it tastes amazing. How can someone take 3-4 basic ingredients and brew something this good ? The Benedictine monks were pretty smart people ;-))
This place is about 2.5km from the train station and it is in the University Campus. It is past the Stadtmitte so you do have to find a way to get there. There is a new place that the brewery has opened in the town centre at the Dom but this is not anywhere near the original place.
The food here is traditional Bavarian fare and Sundays is Schwinebraten day :-) the food is excellent and the service is very friendly. They do speak some English but any attempt at German will get you some brownie points with the servers :-)
The beer is also amazing and served beautifully. This is something you should experience when in Freising or Munich. They do have a big beer garden and you can get to Freising by train or bike 38km from Munich along the Isar like we did. Takes about 3 hours if you go a reasonable pace or quicker if you are an avid cyclist.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Michael A.Royal Oak Charter Township, Vereinigte Staaten2553229. Mai 2018
I was staying near the Munich airport and the hotel concierge recommended visiting this brewery, which is the oldest brewery in the world. The food was excellent, I got the ox cheek entree along with an order of German pretzels. The ox cheek was tender and the gravy on top was very good. The beer was also top notch. The bock and wheat beer were excellent. They offer you the chance to try a sampler of three beers which is a nice way to try a few of their different styles. Also there is a great outdoor patio with heaters which made the visit even better. They provide brewery tours during the day, which you can schedule online through their website.

The claim to fame here is that you are eating at the oldest brewery in the world. If what they report is true, this place is ridiculously old having started sometime in the year 1000. Old things are not uncommon in Europe, but to say that the beer here has been brewing for a thousand plus years is mind-boggling.
We came here for dinner, so I can't comment on the brewery tour. When we arrived we were greeted and seated promptly, and when the server realized we did not speak fluent German she quickly provided us with an English menu. The food we had was absolutely spectacular. We had dumplings and Wienerschnitzel , and although both were terrific, the dumplings were out of this world.
We also tried a flight of beers, which was nice because it was four or five small glasses of the different beers the brewery offered so we can try a little bit of everything.
The prices here are reasonable, they have great food, great beer, the service is spot-on, the atmosphere is good, and they accept Visa and MasterCard!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - John D.St. Louis, Vereinigte Staaten05237725. Feb. 2016
To say you've been to the oldest brewery in the world may not be on everyone's bucket list, but it is something to remember. The restaurant was busy with local diners, and the food selection was large. Food was prepared quick and well presented. Generous portions as well. Paired with the wide selection beer and schnapps from the brewery made this a very good lunch.

The best beer ever. Period. From what may arguably be the oldest brewery in existence.
Wiehenstephen is the Bavarian state brewery in Germany, Bavaria being the home of the Oktoberfest. They've been brewing since 1040 ad, and they follow the German beer purity law which means only 4 things are used to make their beer - Hops, Barley, Water, and Yeast. That's it nothing else.
Of all the beers I've ever tried this is the best, and i will seek it out whenever i can. I've been harassing the local nugget to carry it so i don't have to drive to bevmo.
I like their Vitus, their Original, their Hefeweisen, And their Festbier. However i reserve a special place for their Dark Hefewiesen, Which has to be the greatest beer ever in my opinion.
I may drink several different types and brands of beer depending on the situation and cash on hand, but when i want the best I go find some Wiehenstephen.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Charles C.Forty Fort, Vereinigte Staaten575126. Juli 2015
Very poor customer relations!
Stayed overnight with the sole purpose of touring the brewery.
Got to brewery and was told that I had to preregister or couldn't go on tour.
Went to office and gave the woman in charge my e mail information and she checked.
She told me that that she saw my registration the day before but since that day was a holiday I would not be allowed on a tour!! I explained that was the only reason that I stopped in Germany and I spoke to one of the tour guides and was told if she allowed it, he would take my wife and me on tour. She said absolutely NOT!! Then I find out that on the 10:00 tour, she allowed some additional people to go on the tour who weren't registered!
I have never been treated like this before and would not recommend this place to anyone!
I have bought my last Weihenstephaner!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mike L.Martinez, Vereinigte Staaten15132. Dez. 2013
