We had just driven from Frankfurt to Trier for a couple days of wine tasting in the Mosel area. Trier is an interesting city, the oldest in Germany with a lot of Roman ruins scattered throughout the city.
We were walking around and asked a few locals about some good restaurants in the area. Each one mentioned Das Weinhaus as one of the best. It turned out to be a very good choice as we had dinner and wine one night and just wine the following night.
There is an extensive wine menu, very comprehensive selection of Riesling but there are other wines as well. Prices by the glass and bottle are quite reasonable. The food menu is also large and has German Favorites and other styles of food. Our table of four had a couple of dinner salads, one pork medallions entree and one beef entree.
Service was very helpful, especially on the second night squeezing us in when it was very busy.
Das Weinhaus is an excellent choice for very good food and wineHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 4425929. Apr. 2023
This was a very nice restaurant to
Visit. We both had the Wiener schnitzel and roasted potatoes with side salad. I had a glass of reisling that was good. The meal was prepared very well and the schnitzel was tender and cooked perfectly. The cranberry sauce paired well with the schnitzel. I will visit again if ever in this town. Just like a lot of German cities parking is hard to find. They store was also full of several varieties of wine to include red and white. I thought maybe you could sample wine like at some stores by purchasing a flight. I could not figure that out. The wine menu was in German.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 2. Juni 2016
Thanks to my kind yelp friends who previously wrote reviews, I chose to only go here for the wine. With this as my expectation, I can say it was absolutely perfect! You have two rooms to choose from: one that is more laid back and one that is more sophisticated and fancy. We went with the laid back room. Our server was absolutely amazing and gave us the perfect recommendations. I will 100% become a regular at this wine bar!

We had dinner here while visiting Trier. The food was okay, not bad nor over the top.
The service though was simply bad, from being seated to paying, our waitress seemed annoyed the entire time of our stay. Service was slow and not very helpful when choosing a wine.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Imba K.Bryan, Vereinigte Staaten7433917419. Okt. 2016
In this part of Germany, wine tasting is largely set up for the tourist not overly familiar with German wines, let alone wines from this region. Couple that with the massive over-production in Germany (which surprises many people), and you can drink a lot of mediocre wine.
But Das Weinhaus is set up for the true wine lover. Honestly its intimidating for anyone not intimately familiar with German wines, as the wine list is truly massive. My advice would be to do a little homework before coming here: print a list of good vintages and top producers, and do a little research on the differences across wine regions.
Riesling is the power-house here, but on no account should you skip the rising star, Pinot Noir (spatburgender). Try the by the glass selection, and ask questions of the very friendly young staff here.
And the staff are friendly...all good looking college kid types (Trier is a university town), but who know their stuff.
I can't comment on the food; I came here to taste wine, so I'll leave it at that. I had a nice salad here (yes you can get good salad in Germany now!).
Make a reservation or come at odd hours on a week day. It gets packed.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Thomas Z.LG, Belgien0223626. Jan. 2014
The wines we had were very good but the food was quite bad. The service was good though. It is more a place to have a drink than to have a proper meal.
