Definitely worth a stop in Potsdam! Best fish dish I've had in Germany--make sure to order the platter to get the most bang for your buck.
Other dishes worth noting include the seafood stew, salmon cream soup, and the cucumber salad. Very filling, but also super fresh and good.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Michael S.Portland, Vereinigte Staaten218719416. Okt. 2017
Excellent fish restaurant; everything is fresh, well prepared and beautifully presented. Local specialities are freshwater fish like rainbow trout, but there are also saltwater varieties available, and a handful of non-fish items for those non-pescatarians at your table ;)

Okay, I will admit that my colleagues and I chose this restaurant out of sheer juvenility; the name was funny to us. We were not even totally sure the restaurant would be there. We thought it might be a joke.
Much to our surprise, Der Butt was a very nice, really terrific restaurant. It's not trendy, but it was a little more formal than a bistro. The food was the best that we has in this trip. I had the shrimp soup and grilled salmon. My colleagues had the fried perch. Everything was super fresh, really tasty and reasonably priced to boot. The service was just attentive enough without being overbearing. I would totally eat here again.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - James G.Oak Cliff, Dallas, Vereinigte Staaten0106. Okt. 2017
This restaurant specializes in fish and regional techniques and ingredients. My dinner there was the best I had during a short trip to Potsdam. I was alone but the server was friendly and made me feel at home. I had the house special fish plate (fischteller "Der Butt"). It was a medley of pan-grilled fish from the Baltic and the North Sea, with lightly cooked vegetables and gratin potatoes. The fish and vegetables had just enough butter, cream, and fresh herbs. For dessert I had a dish that I've only ever had in Germany -- a medley of fresh red berries, raspberries etc., with cream and sugar, called rodde grutt. The drink selection is excellent, with a range of regional products. I had an interesting Sauvignon blanc from Germany, and then a calvados with dessert. All the dishes I saw going out to other tables looked very good, too.
