It's different. It's something else.
Don't come here expecting completely new flavors just because it's Afghan food. Rather, think of it as a way enliven your every day eating.
It's not expensive at around 8€ per meal, and although simple, it's good food. I especially recommend vegetarian dishes.
They do takeout, but if you're with company, stay! Order one of everything, share, and have a good time.
The place is really small, in a good way. The lighting is dim and warm, and there's lots of textiles that both make the place look interesting and absorb sound; brilliant!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Ronnia Z.Hamburg5262415. Apr. 2016
I came here with an Afghan friend who said this restaurant is an authentic afghan one. The decoration is in exotic style, so as the music. Handy location and nice service too. I ordered Safran Palau mit gebratenen Aubergine, it's made of lamb, eggplant, garlic and some sauce served with special colored rice. I won't say it tastes so amazing. But again, my friend said it's a really authentic afghan restaurant and she likes it very much. So maybe it's just me not being used to the food style. Worth a try though :)

Excellent value and overall very decent little Afghan restaurant directly opposite the Abaton Kino, so naturally popular with students. It's been around for decades and the dishes are authentic - try the bulani or ashak. The green chutney makes the mouth water. They have a daily lunchtime offer under €6, so you can't really go wrong.

Friendly staff. But disappointing stew (Eintopf). Small portion of clear soup with several pieces of meat and broccoli. Maybe expected too much ;)

Fantastic healthy and filling Afghani food. I strongly recommend the Palau with aubergines. The dookh (their yoghurt drink) is very tasty as well. Plenty of vegetarian options here too.
The staff is very friendly, the service fast, and the place beautifully quiet, even if pretty central to the area.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - LaLaetti L.Hamburg6341259. Juni 2012
I simply love this place! Ok, it's tiny but you can fit in with a group up to 10 people. (I guess a reservation would be recommended in this case.)
I am still amazed that this place is never really overcrowded, it kept a kind of insider's tipp status over the years. Due to the fact that it is located right at the north end of the University campus, opposite the Abaton cinema, it is suitable to the budget of students.
You can get real afghan food here, and the place for me was always a hide-out. A pity they cannot use the garden anymore, but in summertime they open some tables on the sidewalk.
Special recommendations go out to their dooch (yoghurt drink with spices and cucumbers), bolanis and samosas (non-sweet pastries) and their wide range of pilafs (rice-based dishes).Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
