Mercure Hotel & Residenz

A little deja vu moment. My second time in Berlin, once again 2 night stay on business, and same Mercure Hotel, just 8 years later. Same great stay, with masks and vaccination certificates, alas. Excellent location, quiet street, but you can walk everywhere. Friendly service, unusual quirky rooms. I got "wine room" this time, and had a bottle of wine, on top of lively atmosphere and "interesting" wine inspired decor. The rates were once again very reasonable, so, once again, great value. I can certainly recommend this hotel for business and leisure stays.

This hotel is uniquely set up with the main hotel and then a building next door that also has rooms. This was a bit confusing when we checked in. I was provided a room number and key. When I went to that floor, the room was not found. Eventually the front desk staff noted it was in a building next door. So we had to go outside and enter an apartment looking building. Luckily it had an elevator otherwise you'll need to climb up narrow spiral stairs. Looks like an old apartment building turned into a hotel. Anyway, the room was spacious with a large walk in closet, 2 twin beds and a rollout sofa bed at the opposite end of the room. The beds are comfy & we slept well! We also had a kitchenette that included a stovetop, tea kettle, and sink. The restroom included a shampoo/bodywash combo and hand soap. These are large refillable bottles. They do not provide mini size in order to be eco friendly. The wifi worked well and the heater kept the room warm. In the main hotel space, there is a restaurant/bar that is open until 10-11pm perhaps. While the waitress didn't speak much english she tried her best to serve us drinks. The seating area is nice for dining or if you bring food from outside there are areas to sit as well. Didn't have time to explore much more of the hotel but they have a nice dry sauna. Staff was helpful in giving directions. They offer a morning breakfast buffet for 22 EUR. A bit pricey, but you can find cafes nearby that open around 7-8am (Coffee Fellows). I just wanted to purchase a piece of fruit, but the hotel only offered the buffet.

There are a decent amount of Italian restaurants in walking distance. Close to Checkpoint Charlie and a few souvenir shops. Many of the restaurants require reservations. So def. try to book those in advance. Otherwise you'll find a kebab place or fast food in the area. A close walk to the trains and not too far from the mall. Brandenburg Gate is about a 25 minute walk. Overall nice stay in a quiet area with friendly staff. I'd suggest bringing your own shampoo/conditioner and toothpaste & brush.

Fantastic three night stay at Mercure Hotel Checkpoint Charlie. Staff were very helpful with tourist questions. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. Very close to downtown attractions. Great breakfast with traditional American breakfast options like eggs, bacon and sausage and European specialties we love also like fresh breads, cheese, cold cuts and yogurts. Secure underground parking for €25 per day with in and out card, which is about the same cost as street parking. While the street is quiet at night, ask for a courtyard interior facing room for less street noise. We offer look for Mercure hotels when in Germany. Never been disappointed.

We didn't have high expectation, but it turned out to be a decent place to stay. Fairly-priced, fairly-equipped, fairly-located (right by the Checkpoint Charlie). The size of the room was comfortable for the three of us. The staff was informative and obliging. The WIFI worked okayish.

Pluses:
- spacious room
- the location provides excellent connectivity
- separate toilet
- nice Bavarian restaurant (Maximilian's) nearby


Minuses:
- The rooms' design is not very pretty
- In the rooms overlooking the internal patio, you can hear and smell the restaurant located downstairs
- The shower wouldn't mind a deeper clean and a better water mixer
- The AC unit is pretty old (obviously they didn't change it while renewing), but seems to work, albeit slightly loud with the compressor kicked in.

I have stayed in the Mercure for a business trip and was completely surprised. To be honest I didn't have high expectations, but it was a fair priced option in the center of Berlin. So I choose this hotel. The staff was very friendly and obliging. Mercure started to refurbish the complete house. The entry and the bar are already completed. However, it looks like they are still working on some rooms. I was very surprised about the size of the rooms with a big desk, separate toilet and good sized bathroom. I cannot provide feedback on the breakfast as I didn't have breakfast during my stay.
Overall: I can recommend this house for business but also for a city trip. It has good connections to all main public transportation, the staff is nice, the rooms are clean, modern and comfortable.

Stayed here on my visit to Berlin in July. Fabulous hotel near Checkpoint Charlie and great restaurants and easy access to the metro. They have a great bar and a room to iron clothing. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. I loved that the hotel is energy efficient. To turn on and off the electricity in my two bedroom suite, I just had to remove my room key. I would stay here again. Great jukebox as well. The hotel is located in the old Soviet sector of Berlin.

Beautiful hotel, brilliant location, and very friendly staff. The rooms were clean and incredibly spacious. A short walk to the checkpoint Charlie museum with many restaurants and cafes right around the corner. In the winter there is a Christmas market, Gendarmenmarkt, about 5 min down the street. The cocktails in the bar were great too!

The perfect place to stay when leaving on a plane the next morning. The gourmet restaurant was a welcome surprise!

room was great: quiet, lovely, with balcony, separate toilet from large bathroom and great shower. great location, nice sitting garden.
problems: internet connection was awful and restaurant was hardly "gourmet' which one reviewer called it. some of the staff were wonderful. others were incredibly unhelpful.. the latter seemed untrained.
