Been meaning to try this place for some time now and we finally made it here. Located on a busy corner all by itself I expected it to be noisy but, it was quiet and nice inside. The decor is a bit dated and I was expecting cheap Japanese but, it's not. I am guessing if you did takeaway it probably is and or if you did the izakaya dishes its ok. Sushi however is reasonably expensive here. For me this is more like a 3.5 stars but happy to give it a 4.

The positives here is the wide ranging menu, excellent starters, good selection of sake and good vegetarian options. The negatives were slow service (it was busy and there was one waiter), sashimi was good but not special and the waiter did not understand what we wanted and, ended up bringing us 4 desserts instead of two.

My starter of eggplant in miso sauce was delicious and I loved it. I was hoping for great things after this dish. There were quite a few Japanese people eating here and that set the expectation even higher. My sashimi arrived last after the other two people on my table had finished eating and looked fabulous. The squid and prawn was excellent but the salmon and tuna was not so good. Over all the sashimi was a 3 star for me. The tuna was not melt in your mouth kind, neither was the salmon.

The dessert was similarly mixed. We ordered two desserts however, he ended up bringing us four, and I am not sure why. He charged us for four as well. The redbean ball was delicious and I loved it. The green tea ice cream and the balls were both somewhat disappointing.

I will definitely come back here and try the various bits of the menu. It's a good choice in the area. I would still prefer other places for Sashimi. I can't wait till they have zarusoba, a cold noodle dish and, one of my favourite summer time Japanese dishes.

The average rating doesn't seem plausible to me at all - even though the service was friendly and the waiting time seemed reasonable, the food was nothing short of awful.

We started with maki and Yasai - tempura. The sushi fell apart, as the rice was dry, the portion size was ridiculous. The tempura tasted absolutely neutral and were extremely poor value.

We didn't even finish our mains: the Yasai Curry, which was just two big pieces of potatoes and 2 pieces of carrot threw together in an absolutely flavorless "curry" broth and a pile of dry rice.
The Tantanmen was just equally lacking flavor. It literally tasted like water, the spinach was just some deep frozen stuff, the minced beef didn't taste like beef at all.

All that disappointment for a total of 40€. I think you're better off going taking that money anywhere else, literally. How this place still exists is beyond me

Wow, this was an experience I'd love to have missed! I'm not comparing to any Japanese restaurants in Asia but just to Dusseldorf with the biggest Japanese community outside of Japan. I would have expected equal quality in the Bavarian capital.
Setting is fine, simple with a Japanese touch. The all Japanese staff normally would give me confidence for the quality of food but here everything is below par. And also the average good yelp rating made me choose this place.
It started fine with good edamame, nice fresh crisp salad and the gomaae.
It continued with unacceptable deep fried dishes which seemed to be reheated, thus very tough and chewy. Same goes for the mixed yakitori which seemed to have been grilled before and thus very dry. In general everything was bland.
The sashimi moriawase was ok but totally lacked freshness. The final katsu curry was bland again and the pork chop was just dry. Well, what can I say, expensive for what you get. Definitely no repeat!
