Wombat's The City Hostel Munich Hauptbahnhof

I LOVED this hostel! Wombats always provides a great experience, but the vibe here was extra fun. The bar is downstairs, making the upper dorm floors insulated from the noise. The kitchen is a full, professional grade kitchen with almost everything you could ever need- including utensils and pasta! There's a nice balcony/patio area with a decent view of part of the container park on the street and a climbing wall.

Let's talk about the beds though- they're like little sleep caves. I slept so well with my little curtains and a built in fan! Best hostel sleep I've ever had. My roommates were awesome and we had a great time chatting! Loved this place so much.

Looking for a safe, convenient hostel in Munich? I definitely always recommend staying at a Wombats if you can find one.

Not only are the rooms safe and spacious but they have all the amenities you need and no age restrictions.

They have a happy hour for their bar, breakfast, lockers, easy location from train stations, and spacious hostel rooms.

I really liked this hostel in Munich so I stayed here twice when coming to Germany and leaving back to home to California.

Definitely a must stay!!

The hostel was okay. The pictures definitely made it seem nicer than what it is. Upon arriving, I noticed they were out of toothpaste when a guest asked if they had any available or for purchase. I had to run out and do a tour, but when I came back I wanted to take a shower. I asked if I could get a towel and how much it would cost.

The front desk lobby mentioned that they do provide them free-of-cost, but that they were out. This was rather striking considering they offer lodging and washing rooms.

I also had to wait until 2pm for check-in, but when going to my shared room, I had to put on the bed sheet and pillow case. I've only stayed at one other hostel, but the experience was more pleasant elsewhere.

It was amazing and very comfortable. If this place is not available on the American sites to book hostels, then here's a tip, go on their actual website. I was able to book this hostel at $60 a night, which is a steal, 3 days before even coming to the hostel during Oktoberfest time.

Last resort, call them and see if they have space.

Pros -
1. GENUINE STAFF - AMAZING - LOVE THEM. I don't care if I have a place to stay in Munich next time, I'm going to come here.

Overall, Wombats city hostel had everything I could ask for out of a hostel! Clean rooms, hot showers, friendly staff, a nice lounge area, and it's extremely close to the train station.

A few extra specifics:
- There's one bathroom with a toilet and shower per room (6 beds). In addition, there's also one bathroom with no shower in the hallway.
- The large lockers are locked using your room keycard (so no need to bring a separate lock)
- Towels are provided for free
- Like all the hostels I visited in Germany, you're required to make your bed at first, and take down your sheets at checkout
- Breakfast for 5.30 Euro
- At check in, you're proactively given a ticket for a free drink, and a map of the city with highlights on it. In addition, when I asked, the employee I talked to was happy to recommend me a place to eat in addition to those shown on the map.
- Common area looked quite nice, but was under construction while I was there

5 star fantastic! Easily one of the best hostels you will EVER stay in!! It's seriously top draw and for the price you pay, it's a steal!

I opted to stay in a dormitory and go old school. I was a bit apprehensive, I'm not gonna lie, as I've only done this once before, but I shouldn't have worried. I shared a room with 5 other lovely girls and the room was spacious, so you didn't feel cramped at all. I was lucky to have the top bunk and it had a little tiny table on the side of the bed to charge your phone and put any jewellery you had. A total win for me, as I'm forever in need of a plug and a phone charge.

Storage wise, you had a locker each, which was locked with a key card, you received when you checked in! The locker was big enough to fit a small suitcase, shoes and a hand bag. A decent size if you're travelling! I like the key idea, as it made me feel like my things were totally secure!

The room had one bathroom which came with he necessities, and the shower was super powerful, with the water always hot! A total winner!

Downstairs was fantastic, there was a spacious bar, so you could get to know lots of other travellers and the drinks were a very reasonable price, with beer coming in at 2€-3€. Bargain! They even have two happy hours on per night, so you get an even better deal! Plus you also get a free welcome drink on your first night to help you settle in!

My favourite area of the hostel was the seating area, which had a clear roof, so felt like you were outside, as it was so brightly lit, but you were still in the warm. The seats were uber comfortable and wifi was great, as was the case with the whole of the building! I loved to sit here to read my book or catch up on emails.

All in all, one of the best staying experience I've had while travelling worldwide and I wouldn't think to stay anywhere else next time I come to Munich!

While Wombat's great location by the main station allows easy exploration, arrival, and departure from Munich, the hostel left a lot to be desired. Every guest is expected to make his own bed upon arrival, which is not exactly a fun thing to do when you arrive late at night and have a top bunk bed. Additionally both times I stayed there, the bedside light and the lockers were broken. I do appreciate the friendly staff, the free towel rental, and the social atmosphere thanks to the free welcome drink, but I wouldn't stay here for longer than a night or two.

Pub crawl was extremely disappointing. We made it to one bar and then back to the hostel. The head of the trip seemed to be on his own schedule and wasn't trying to bring the whole group along. Room were solid. Met some pretty cool people. Great first hostel experience overall but wouldn't recommend the pub crawl.

If you're coming to Munich solo, this is a GREAT place to meet people! I was traveling with three friends when I stayed here; however, even then - we met some of the most fun people you'll probably ever meet while traveling here.

Great common areas, which, you'd be surprised, a lot of hostels lack.

This place is fairly centrally located, so it's easy to pop in and out if you need to.


Pretty clean and tidy, which is a plus. :)

Really enjoyed this hostel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They provided us with maps and many suggestions of what to do upon arrival. They allowed us to store our luggage here for free prior to check in. They also have daily tours available to popular Munich sites. It is in a great location, close to the train station and the city historical center. They also have a relaxing bar with happy hour specials. They serve a breakfast buffet here as well for a very reasonable price.
