It would be worth the price paid for services received for me, just to see this artisan repair/sharpen/hone/revive another persons knives.
If you know a smidgen about knives, surely you've heard the name Ken Onion.
This gentleman's relationship with aforementioned is what originally attracted me in seeking out service. What a great decision!
What I was impressed with the most:
This bahdahs knowledge, passion, and skill in his craft - I was not only kindly allowed to view him in action, but did so as he simultaneously answered any and all of my questions.
Ever see a single sheet of newspaper get sliced from edge in mid-air? I did... with each of my knives.
The behavior of his children and family. The young-uns all were so very polite, helpful, accommodating, and knowledgable.
Beautiful kids - Hawaii still has hope!
I even got to see what I would call 'artifacts'. One-offs, pieces hand crafted from Mr. Onion himself when he was a struggling knifesmith perfecting his craft. I was shown some hand-bound - handle knives created by Travis, and also took a peek at some of his custom kydex pistol holsters.
An awesome experience. Sensory overload. Any more would be typing too much.
Please visit this gentleman, artist, bahdah, and be wowed as boast-worthy skill and humble aloha intertwine. An honor to meet you and your family Travis.
I'll be back!
Never thought I would write a review for Starbucks but nowadays...
This location is part of my daily routine.
The morning crew at this location is amazing and always help me start my day off right!
Back living in the 808, and still one of my favorite restaurants ever.
Too many great memories there to not be.
Rest in Power Komiyama Shigemi!
Still one of my very most favorite restaurants in San Francisco! Must experience for yourself. The karaage still brings me back to the '70's in that little kitchen on 815 Luawai St... Where so much beautiful food came out of my Granny's kitchen.... One bite and I'm there.
Food is love. Get to know it!
The karaage still reminds me of Granny. OISHIIIIII!
I miss you and Gramps so very much.
I sit here with tears in my eyes.
Not only because I miss you, but because Halu makes my insides so very happy!
Good friends, good drink, good eats.
It's all love.
Your ume onigiri was made with LOVE tonight.
Your ume cha was too. I KNOW you were proud of that.
Trust me. I could have had plain tea in a bowl of gohan and been happy.
Especially after all the yakitori, kushi katsu, sake and biiru we had.
Mahalo nui Ian! *burp!*
Gochisoosamadeshita!!!!
Now, my favorite restaurant in The City!
First off, they did forget my boys side of gohan and the wife's chazuke.
I'll forgive them for that.
We had a great time.
Their yakitori is exceptional. The chicken thigh with shiso leaf was surprisingly good with the teriyaki.
Good beer and sake selection. (ask, there are other options besides what is on the menu)
The karaage is the best I've ever had next to Granny's.
The ume onigiri brought back childhood memories of her also, when all the other kids would wanna trade their bologna and pbj sammies for Granny's karaage and musubi.
The smell of their karaage alone warrants looks of "Ooo what's that?" from other tables. Order it and see.
Had the chicken thigh yakitori...
the cherry tomato bacon...
the scallop bacon...
the salmon...
the enoki bacon...
the ribeye...
karaage...
ume onigiri...
Three large Sapporos...
Three bottles of sake....
Three happy people.
One of my new favorite spots in The City.
Having lived in California from '00-'13, I've had many an AWESOME Korean bbq meal.
Now... It could be that I hadn't eaten in 17 hours or so prior... but...
I did take out, and this is why I'll be back:
Korean owned, and super polite service.
Great banchan. Kim chi tasted home made.
Home made man doo.
Meat jun and chicken katsu in Korean bbq restaurants may sound strange anywhere else, but they're automatic in HI 'local' Korean restaurants.
Heard they were great here. They were.
Dak Bulgogi was crackin' off too.
Pajun hiding under the foil, and the jun sauce is legit.
Ask for Ko chu jang, and get a hand reappearing from under the counter with two take-out ramekins filled and handed over with a smile.
Gonna have to come back to try the soondubu. Hope I'm not disappointed!
If you know what's up with grass-fed beef, you will THOROUGHLY enjoy your burger.
Beef is beef?
Hit up Golden Arches.
Mo' easy.
