      Derartige Lokale sollte man meiden!

A traditional German restaurant. The food is average. The roasted pig knuckle was pretty good as was the spetzel but the goulash was not very good. The beef was dry and stringy. The steak looked very good but was bland and lacked seasoning. The side of potatoes wasn't bad. The apple strudel was just ok. The crust was not flaky as most strudels but more moist. If in Berlin I would skip this one.

I ended up here because a visitor in town wanted to eat some German food, and the guy at his hostel said this place is filling and inexpensive, so off we went.

There's an outdoor area, which we sat in. It's not the most charming atmosphere, but it is kind of "protected" and closed off, so that you don't feel like you're situated on a busy corner.

The food here is pretty standard Bavarian food, which means lots of heavy dishes and meat items. I can't comment on those, since I couldn't eat any of them. I ended up having a side of fries, along with a large beer. The fries were actually really good (nothing like the frozen fries most places just heat up) and filling. The beer was a bit expensive, but that's to be expected. I think in total it set me back about €7 or €8.

My companion's meal had sausages, a pretzel, and sauerkraut. He said it was pretty OK. However, based on the sizes of things, I don't know if the portion/cost ratio is all that great.

Chances are, I'd never come here again, though if you're into hearty Bavarian fare, then maybe check it out? On the plus side, the server was really friendly and patient when dealing with my indecisive friend and all his questions.

The first English review of Wirtshaus Hasenheide, I'm honoured! And also feeling shameful that I don't speak German :( So I thought I'd offer a tourist's view of this traditional German eatery. We had a supreme restaurant guide in the form of Svenja of course, who talked us through the menu with total efficiency and recommended what she thought would give us a well-rounded impression of German food. We were a table of one pescetarian, one meat-eater who hates mushrooms and one lady who was happy to have a little of everything, so we opted for three dishes to share.

Simple solution really, Svenja and I could partake the non-meat creamy cheesy pasta with crisped onions and mushroomy cheesy rosti option, she and my SO could share his meat dish as well as the pasta (he's the mushroom-hater, by the way) and that way everyone could have a bit of what they liked. Firstly we ordered drinks which were beers and wine, lovely enough and reasonably priced too, and when it came to ordering food we did get to that point where you feel horrendous for waving a member of staff over... but the wait was getting a little OTT and we were all very hungry little souls by this point.

Anyway, when the food came it did not disappoint. The mushrooms on the rosti had been cooked brilliantly, in that they offered none of that sliminess which indicates they've been sweating in their own juices too long... rather they were tender, had bite to them and really retained the flavour of the dish. Yep, garlic to the max. Piles of melted cheese of course, as is requisite for the foodstyle, and oh, that melt in the mouth grated potato underneath! Heaven. The thick spaghetti noodles with the creamy cheese sauce were divine, and I did sneak a potato from the SO's plate but even they were full of bacon - that was one meaty dish! They even sliced the sausages in a really unusual style whereby they opened like flowers, or squids, much to his horror and my amusement.

The place is atmospheric and full of wood; you kind of feel like you're in a lodge. Overall it was an awesome start to our trip, the food was spot on and while the slow service did let it down somewhat it came with a friendly smile, so there's little to complain about really. A surprise winner, and I do want that rosti again... like right now, please.

This is the first restaurant my friend and I went in in Germany and it was amazing. The food was wonderful and the desert was even better. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

Schnitzel all the way! This traditional German restaurant has all the Schnitzel you need - whether a good old Wiener Schnitzel, a Jägerschnitzel or one of the many other Schnitzel creations, you'll definitely satiate your hunger here. Next to Schnitzel a big selection of other traditional German dishes is served as well, from Kasespätzle to Tafelspitz or Eisbein. All for very fair prices.

The restaurant itself is roomy with a nice rustic atmosphere.

The waiters are a bit stereotypical for Kreuzberg, but the service is good.

We dropped in here for a few drinks and something to eat after a long evening of playing badminton. There's a nice big outdoor seating area that was perfect to enjoy the warm summer evening, even though it now means you have to put up with the smokers.

I had a huge portion of chicken wings for just under EUR7 and washed them down with a couple of very tasty Caipirinha for EUR4.50 each.

Reasonable prices with good portion, but more of a friends place than a date location.
